Reconnecting With Your Authentic Self: Group Therapy for Daughters of Emotionally Immature Parents:
If you're struggling with the effects of having an emotionally immature parent, you're not alone. Join our 90-minute group inspired by the work of Dr. Lindsay Gibson's books, Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents and Recover from Emotionally Immature Parents. Led by Sara Forcella, who was trained by Dr. Gibson, the group provides a safe space to explore and disentangle from these complex relationships. You'll gain valuable insights into emotional immaturity, your behaviors and emotions, learn how to set boundaries, and start reconnecting with your authentic self. ➡️ BONUS: Group members may request to add between 1-3 individual 60-minute sessions with me. Sessions will be solution-focused an tailored to the strengths and goals they've identified within the group setting.
This group is not a substitute for psychotherapy and does not initiate an individual therapeutic relationship. It is highly suggested for participants to already be engaged in individual therapy. Please note that once you have completed group therapy you will be eligible to join a monthly support group for Daughters of Emotionally Immature Parents.
Is this group for me?
Are you finding it tough to really connect with your parent on a deeper emotional level? Do you ever feel completely worn out after simple interactions with them? Maybe you have gaps of your childhood you just don't remember. Or it feel like you're the one doing all the heavy emotional lifting, or they just see you as an extension of themselves. Does your parent push boundaries all the time? Maybe they brush off or ignore your feelings and experiences? You might have even caught yourself googling, "is my parent a narcissist?" These are often the experiences of an adult child of an emotionally immature parent. Participants must be 25 years or older and live in North Carolina. Group members agree to attend at least 5 of the 6 group meetings. I provide a trauma-informed, anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, fat-positive, and pro-reproductive freedom space where all participants are expected to be respectful.\

What is group therapy: Group therapy is usually led by a trained mental health professional, who guides discussions and uses therapeutic techniques to address specific mental health issues. In this setting, participants can share their thoughts and feelings while also receiving professional feedback and strategies for improvement. Unlike support groups which focus on providing emotional support and shared experiences, group therapy tends to be more structured and educational.
